Increased energy output per cylinder, reduction in the number of cylinders and driving at lower engine speeds increases the efficiency of the thermal engine, but it increases the torsional vibrations in the engine and cause severe damage to drive line. Pendulums are introduced to absorb these vibrations. The numerical simulation for the pendulum components in Dual mass flywheel is a challenging target during the development process. Complete assembly multi-body simulation is too expensive and a reduced method is done to optimize cost and time. In this methodology, rigid body simulation using LMS Virtual lab and Amesim is done to find the velocity and acceleration input response for the FE simulation using ANSYS.
This paper outlines the steps carried out in LMS Virtual lab and Amesim for various testing condition and predicted the critical life condition. Using scripts, it is linked to Ansys to find the stress and strain in pendulum components. An optimization loop is carried out to find the optimized design based on fatigue strain-stress life criteria. In the last part of this paper, we discuss about the correlation between test and simulation.
