Thermostructural analysis on engine components

Thermal analysis was conducted to calculate thermal field and thermal flux in order to obtain a thermal load value necessary to perform FEM mechanical analysis.

The analysis was performed under steady state thermal conditions: it was calculated an equivalent steady state thermal load considering as a starting point the time variable thermal load characteristic of engine cycle.

Description of analysis method:

  • F.E. model setting (geometry, materials and contacts properties)
  • thermal loads evaluation on combustion chamber, intake and exhaust ports (from 1D-CFD analysis)
  • application of Temperature & HTC map on water jacket wall (from 3D-CFD analysis)
  • thermal FEM calculation
