In order to improve quality of 1d thermal simulation for automotive engine cooling systems, elevation profiles are introduced to set up better boundary conditions, performing a two step procedure. First, track time estimation models are modified introducing uphill and dowhill sections description and extending their capabilities to mimic a set of northern Italy grades, different for steepness, length, road layout.

Then track modified models provide boundary conditions such as vehicle and engine usage for 1d thermal grade simulation, whose results are compared with test ones provided by diesel and gasoline engines and different driving style - intense, moderate, with and without trailer.
