CAE engineers need quick and reliable access to approved CAE materials models - and the implications of incorrect or inappropriate materials data on the validity of simulation results can be profound. Increasingly, materials data management implementations are being initiated by simulation teams, driven by lack of validated and traceable materials data, limited project time, and pressure to reduce costs.
This presentation will report on the latest work by materials information specialist Granta Design, whose Materials Gateway enables ANSYS Workbench users to directly access their company’s central resource of validated materials data. ANSYS Workbench already supports native CAD model access.
The new capabilities extend this, supporting more effective collaboration between product design and simulation departments. CAE validity is enhanced, giving confidence that the simulation will accurately represent the design intent.
The concept maintains links from materials assigned in CAD and CAE to the central ‘live’ database, for full traceability - enabling access to further information as required, and providing the option to update models when new property data becomes available.
